Invisible Competition by Heidi Thorne

Dr. Heidi Thorne, MBA/DBA, has published a book on sales competition for small business titled, Invisible Competition: Hidden Forces that Steal Sales from Small Businesses, Solopreneurs and Self-Employed Consultants. It is available as a Kindle eBook on Amazon.com.

“As a small business salesperson for the majority of my career, I realized that often when I was not able to make a sale, it was largely due to something going on with my customer, as opposed to a problem with my sales skills or what I offered. Even more frustrating was that the reasons were largely invisible and difficult to assess. So I wanted to help other small business owners, solopreneurs, and consultants understand what may be keeping them from greater sales success. With greater understanding, it’s possible to find ways to combat these hidden forces or make a decision to walk away and find new sales opportunities,” says Dr. Thorne.

Public Speaking to Get Business by Heidi Thorne
Dr. Heidi Thorne, MBA/DBA, has published a book on public speaking for small businesses titled, Public Speaking to Get Business for Solopreneurs and Self-Employed Consultants, available on Amazon in both print and Kindle eBook editions.

“I was frustrated with most of the books on public speaking I read. They only talked about how to be a better speaker, not how to get or manage speaking gigs. That’s the toughest part! So that’s what motivated me to compile some of the tips and strategies I used over the years to get on stages to showcase my expertise and help get sales leads,” says Dr. Thorne.

Some of the topics covered in the book include:

  • Who hires public speakers?
  • Why you don’t want to be a “professional” speaker.
  • What should you talk about?
  • Does public speaking help you sell books? And can your book help you get speaking gigs?
  • How many sales leads can you really get from public speaking?
  • How to evaluate public speaking opportunities.
  • Dealing with unwanted post-presentation consultation requests.
  • 20 questions to ask your event host or organizer.

Small Business Failures Book by Heidi ThorneDr. Heidi Thorne, MBA/DBA, has written a book titled, Small Business Failures Solopreneurs and Self-Employed Consultants Need to Avoid! It is available in paperback and Kindle eBook on Amazon.com.

Written expressly for solopreneurs and self-employed consultants, Heidi discusses key behaviors and attitudes that can lead to small business failures in one-person operations. Topics include:

  • Identities that can negatively impact success such as being a Lemonade Stand, Superhero, One-Trick Pony, Unicorn or Accidental Charity.
  • Boundary issues such as sales territory expansion, time traps, bloated service menus, muddled income streams and doing business with friends.

“As a small, solopreneur business, I saw myself falling into many of the traps of doing everything myself and ignoring larger issues. So my hope for this book is that other one-person empires can sidestep some of these failures and grow their businesses,” says Heidi.

Dr. Heidi Thorne is an author, business speaker and self publishing consultant who specializes in working with solopreneurs, speakers, coaches and consultants to help them self publish books and blogs to build their brands and fans. She has over 25 years experience in sales, marketing and advertising and was a trade newspaper editor for over 15 years. To learn more about Heidi, visit HeidiThorne.com.
